Soekarno-Hatta International Airport: Southeast Asia’s number one airport for total passengers carried

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is Indonesia’s top airport, with over 63 million passengers in 2017. It’s also one of Asia’s fastest-growing airports in passenger departures and arrivals – numbers are up 12% on the previous year – as well as the Southern Hemisphere’s busiest airport. There are over 30 non-stop international destinations served from CGK, including London Heathrow, Sydney, Amsterdam and Doha. The Jakarta-Singapore route is in fact the world’s second busiest international route by passengers carried, after Taipei-Hong Kong. Air France and partner airlines fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle from CGK, usually via Singapore or Amsterdam. Charles de Gaulle, an Air France hub, offers the opportunity for further onward travel to hundreds of destinations served by the French carrier.

Did you know?

There are big plans for the future of CGK. If you’re on a flight leaving from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the years to come, you may see the airport develop into what’s called a Smart Connected Airport, with major changes made to the check-in and boarding experiences and the introduction of electric buses.

By some measures, Jakarta is one of the world’s top Facebook cities, with more active FB users than almost any other urban area – some 16 million active accounts!

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is located 20km northwest of Jakarta city centre. The quickest way to drive from the city centre is generally via the Prof. Dr. Sedyatmo toll road. This can take anything between 30 and 90 minutes.

Each of the three terminals have their own ‘daily parking’ lots and there is overnight parking at terminal 1 and in front of building 601. All terminals are connected to each other and the train station using a Skytrain people-mover system.

The rail link connects the city centre (BNI City station) and the airport, travel times being around 46 minutes. There are also stops at Batu Ceper and Bekasi stations.

Multiple bus companies run services to CGK, including Agra Mas, Damri, Hiba Utama, Primajasa, Sinar Jaya and the various JA Connexion services (which operate from hotels and shopping malls). Shuttle bus services are available from Bandung city, Bintaro and other locations.

Go-Car/Go-Jek and Grab/Inkoppol are both available for airport trips, as are traditional taxis.
